Turquoise raku bottle with poured patterns and dots
The top of this 29 cm form, thrown on the potter's wheel is blackened by carbon from wood smoke after the raku firing. It also impregnates the intentional crackles in the glaze. These are caused by thermal shock when the pot is lifted from the kiln at 1000 degrees and rapidly cooled.
The pot is for decorative use only. It's low firing to obtain such strong colours means that it is porous and not suitable for food or liquid use.
